The next step in the repair project for the Eggners Ferry Bridge over Kentucky Lake is underway.
Governor Steve Beshear joined Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and Hall Contracting officials at the Lyon County Riverport in Eddyville today to announce the next phase of the process.
Beshear says project is a priority for everyone involved. “ Apparently things are going fine right now; I think they’re on schedule," said Beshear. He continued, "I’m just going make sure we stay on top of this because I know how important that bridge is for this part of the state.”
Beshear says parts for the structure will be assembled in Eddyville, then barged up the river to the bridge to replace the damaged span. He says the project is expected to be completed May 27th.
Hall Contracting faces a $50,000 dollar a day penalty if the deadline isn’t met. The Eggners Ferry Bridge has been closed to traffic since a January accident when a cargo collapsed a 300 foot section of the bridge.
