The Memorial Day Weekend will come to a close at day’s end. Many people will be traveling home during the day.
Anyone on the highways today can probably anticipate more traffic than on a typical Monday. With the increased number of vehicles, comes a greater chance of mishap. Robert McCool, with the University of Kentucky’s Center for Injury Prevention says what’s become almost an age old recommendation never ages.
“The number one recommendation is when you are in a vehicle buckle up. I mean, people travel a lot during the summer, but that’s the biggest injury problem in Kentucky right now is motor vehicles.”
Kentucky has had a primary seat belt law since 1994. McCool says seatbelt usage is above 85%, but that still leaves a large number of people who travel unrestrained. He says too many people still don’t use booster seats to restrain young children.
